Mary Portas Shop in Highgate
Mary Portas Shop Hits Highgate. Legendary TV icon and retail expert Mary Portas has recently opened a high-end charity shop in Highgate. The grand opening took place on July 12th at the new branch on the corner of the High Street and South Grove in the space previously occupied by BBC3Hair Studios. The first store (a pop-up shop at Westfield shopping centre) earned over £190,000 in just three weeks! There are now thirteen volunteer-run Living & Giving shops in London with locations such as on Kings Road and in Primrose Hill where Portas lives herself.
Following her TV series ‘Mary Queen of Charity Shops’ in 2009, Portas joined forces with Save the Children and developed Living and Giving. The concept is for the shops to raise money in support of the charity whilst becoming community hubs where people can go to “find inspiration, share local news, skills or the time of day”. Described as “a collaboration of people’s ideas, values and beliefs”, this project is a philosophy about more than just shopping.
Combining retail with ethical trade, all items donated and sold through Living and Giving fund the vital work of Save the Children. Why not visit the Highgate branch of Living and Giving? You’ll be helping some of the world’s most vulnerable children and may even bag a designer bargain while you’re at it!
