MHFGA AGM – Monday 14th May, 7.30pm at the John Baird
We are holding our Annual General Meeting at the John Baird pub this year. Food will be served!
All MHFGA members are welcome to attend and there is no need to book – just turn up.
MHFGA / Haringey Police Q&A – plus you can get involved!
On 12th April we were delighted to welcome our local police officers, led by Inspector Kevin Blenkinsopp, to a Q&A session with local residents, including many MHFGA members.
Predictably, the event was extremely well attended with over 60 seats filled in the audience, including our local MP. Much of the discussion, and most questions from the floor, revolved around what the police is doing to tackle the recent trend of muggings involving teenagers. The officers advertised their recent success in bringing a known ringleader to prosecution and confirmed that they are aware of the ongoing issues.
As always, the police rely on interactions with the public to do their job effectively. They are looking for local volunteers to join the Muswell Hill ‘Ward Panel’. This committee meets every few months to discuss trends in local crime and to act as a liaison between local residents and officers. Please email us on [email protected] if you would be interested in taking part.
Highgate Cemetery Tour – Thursday 14th June, 1.45pm
MHFGA have arranged a special guided tour of Highgate Cemetery. Priority will be given to our members, and there are only 20 spaces available – so we recommend joining the Association if you are not already a member!
Our guide will take us on a tour of the West Cemetery which is home to the most impressive architectural features of Highgate Cemetery — the Chapel, Colonnade, Egyptian Avenue, Circle of Lebanon, Terrace Catacombs and the mausoleum of Julius Beer. Afterwards, for those who wish to visit the East Cemetery, where you will find buried many famous names, our guide will direct you to the most interesting memorials, including that of Karl Marx.

Everyman Cinema Car Park
We have heard of some local residents having difficulties with the Everyman Cinema car park. There have been several reports of undeserved and unexpected parking tickets. We contacted the managing agent, who explained that by entering the car park you are liable for a ticket, even if you do not leave your car (after a short grace period). However, if you would like us to follow up a specific concern on your behalf, please get in touch!
MHFGA is your local residents’ association (since 1948!) We produce six bi-monthly newsletters per year, which are distributed to over 750 members. Membership is just £10 a year and gives you the chance to attend our special events. Each Summer we hold the popular ‘Odd One Out’ competition, and last Christmas we raised over £460 with our Charity Tombola. To join MHFGA and be kept up to date on local issues and our planned activities, visit www.mhfga.org/membership or email our Membership Secretary on [email protected]
