Highgate’s The Fair in the Square returns Saturday 16 June with a new Chair and organising committee. Sarah Thomas succeeds Veronica (Ronnie) Day who served for over a decade as Chair and committee member. Under Ronnie’s stewardship The Fair flourished and set the standard which many local fairs followed.
Sarah commented, “We thank Ronnie and Betty Pires, our former Treasurer, for their enormous contribution. I am delighted to have a new team this year and we look forward to building on the success of previous years. We are keen on the ethos of a local fair for the Highgate community and are keen to talk to local organisations to find ways in which we can work together”.
Sarah, a part time publishing consultant, has lived in the Highgate area for over twenty years and has two children attending local schools (first St Michael’s now Highgate).
The Fair in the Square brings together the community for an afternoon of live music, children’s activities and colourful stalls selling household gifts, crafts, plants, clothes, books and international street food. Local choirs and performers provide live entertainment from the stage in Pond Square and St Michael’s Church offers Tower Tours and tea and homemade cakes from its cafe. For children there are fair rides and music activities led by Mini Mozart in the Kids Tent. The Fair is sponsored by Camden Council, Highgate Society, HLSI, Day Morris, Streathers Solicitors, Kinleigh Folkard & Hayward and Mini Mozart.
