Wave Café brings together local influencers to co-design an inclusive community space in Muswell Hill
- Wave Café and MELA social enterprises team up to bring together a good mix of community influencers, café entrepreneurs, artists, and local residents to help us think big about our ideal community space.
- An open consultation is to take place in September showcasing the design concepts and further drawing the support from the local community
An open consultation process is going to take place in September (dates TBC) drawing together hundreds of local people interested in contributing towards establishing a permanent, inclusive community space and café in Muwell Hill where individuals with and without learning disabilities can comfortably meet, socialise and work together.
Wave Café provides a safe and comfortable space for the whole community to meet and enjoy activities together, as well as offering volunteering and work opportunities. Wave Café’s focus is on mutual transformation – changing the attitudes and experience of those without disabilities being as important as building the integration and self-esteem of those with disabilities (www.wavecafe.org).
Graham Wright, chair of Wave Café, explains: “We’ve run lots of successful events to date, but all drawn from the ideas and inspiration of a relatively small core team. This process will open up our thinking to a much wider group, enabling a richer mix of ideas which should appeal to a broader section of the local community”.
