Baskervilles Tea Shop: Five years of tea and community


On the 16th July Baskervilles Tea Shop will be celebrating its 5th birthday. Located on Alderman’s Hill, overlooking Broomfield Park, the renovation of the corner shop has transformed the area.

The owner of Baskervilles, Diane Odling-Smee took a risk over five years ago to convert the run down premises into the beautiful tea shop, tranquil garden and function room and her vision has created a successful business and a thriving community hub.

Diane says “These 5 years have been hard work and a steep learning curve but thanks to the support from my staff, the community in Palmers Green and beyond, it has been great fun,

As well as quality breakfasts and light lunches, Baskervilles is well known for its home baked cakes and scones.  The shop hosts many Afternoon Tea parties and family get togethers, ranging from baby showers, to 90th Birthday celebrations.

The shop’s function room hosts regular event for adults and children as well as being available for private parties. Gabi Maddocks, from The Playing Space has been holding drama classes at Baskervilles since they opened. She said “Baskervilles has provided a great space for the children to develop their talents and the friendly atmosphere makes it a delight to work there”.

Baskervilles has also developed its own range of speciality loose leaf teas.  There are now 24 unique blends, all named after the local area. The loose leaf teas are also available to buy and drink at home.

Diane says “our recent new teas, Conway Chocolate and Green Dragon are proving a big hit.”
