Seasonal touches are not just for Christmas!

So, summer is here and the school holidays are looming. For some this may mean a fabulous series of holidays to exotic locations but for many it means a cloudy week on the south coast if you’re lucky! BUT, never fear, we can achieve a holiday feel in our homes whether it be English beach hut chic, Mediterranean cool or tropical paradise that you’re after.

The key to a relaxing coastal interior style is the use of natural materials, cool colours, plenty of white and bold stripes as design accents. Add a few simple objects inspired by the coast to give a room or even just a dinner table a seaside feel. Put flowers or plants in small buckets, use shells or pebbles as ornaments and a piece of driftwood can be a sculpture, a doorstop or a feature outside in the garden or patio.

For a more vibrant tropical look use vivid acid colours.  Look to fruit, palm trees and golden beaches for your inspiration. Lime green, lemon yellow and bright orange with a splash of turquoise sea. Place grasses and large leaves with exotic flowers in tall coloured vases and use a pineapple as a centrepiece for a table. Even many of the supermarkets ranges of plastic outdoor plates and glasses are in this colour range

For a Mediterranean or Moorish look use mosaics and richly coloured ceramics along with tapestry cushions.Use metal lanterns as accessories and candles in the evening and just maybe you can transport yourself away for a little while………
