Confidence in Children
How can we nurture real confidence in children?. You are often told that your child will gain confidence from activities such as drama, dancing and singing – this is absolutely true.
It is an incredible thing to witness your child enjoying and expressing themselves through performance. It is also equally as great to see them transferring these skills into their every day life. To be comfortable sharing ideas, communicating openly in front of others and being able to work as part of a team, are just some of the benefits to be gained from an activity such as this. It is, however, important that for this activity to nurture confidence into something truthful and long lasting the environment needs to be right. Smaller classes with individual attention and a teacher who is encouraging your child every step of the way provides the foundations for confidence to grow. Real, inner confidence cannot be developed over night. It takes time and encouragement in a playful and supportive group for individuality to flourish. We believe that this is the key to unlocking a child’s true potential.
Loop Academy is Highgate’s local and independent performing arts school for children. Loop is now coming up to it’s 4th birthday and we have had the most incredible journey. When we started the school our aim was to create an exciting, friendly and unique environment for children to learn and grow as individuals. A place where imagination comes alive, parents can have a cup of tea (we’re from Yorkshire so this is important to us) and everyone can be a part of something that builds and enhances an already buzzing community.
Every child that has walked through the Loop Academy doors has been instantly welcomed. At the free taster class (which inevitably starts with a few nerves) they are paired up with a loop buddy who will help to welcome them into the group and as is always the way by the end of the session they are laughing, playing and creating a friendships!
As childhood friends we attended a similar school to Loop Academy in the North. We remember the excitement of putting on our drama club t-shirts, catching up with our new found friend and practicing routines for the end of term shows! It’s that feeling of being part of something special that we are creating for our own Loop Academy families.
At loop we plan the lessons, teach the classes, communicate with parents, man the phones, organize events, performances, summer schools, parties – the list is endless and we love it! We can honestly say that not one of these activities is achieved without the confidence and professionalism we developed through our training.
We are very fortunate that Loop Academy is based in such a wonderful part of London. Highgate has a great sense of community and we love to take part in local events such as Fair in the Square. We also organise the spooky annual Highgate Society and Loop Academy trick-or-treat trail. Please get in touch if you would like more information on how you can be one of our host homes on the route!
Building relationships and working with our local community is very important to us. We are proud to announce that we will be having our first large scale show at the brilliant Jacksons Lane Theatre next March 2015! We are in the midst of planning this at the moment – keep your eyes peeled for more details!
Highgate is also the home to many actors and we could not be prouder to have a very active patron in Coronation Streets Marc Baylis. Our students can benefit from Marc’s 14 years of experience in the industry through his popular Drama and Acting for TV workshops. He is a massive support to the school helping out at local community events and offering guidance on the Academy’s development.
Loop is constantly adapting and evolving based on what our families and children want and we are so proud of what loop has achieved over the last 4 years, we don’t know what the future will hold for us, but we are excited to find out and hope that you will join us!
