Linda Symons is a local businesswoman and Early Years teacher who founded Kidz Kabin Nurseries in 2011, after running a domestic childcare setting. With 23 years of childcare experience and more than 30 years in Muswell Hill, Linda brings a unique understanding of the community to her nurseries.
This resulted in Kidz Kabin developing relationships with local care homes such as The Meadows in Muswell Hill, promoting intergenerational relationships that benefit children and residents. They collaborate in activities during weekly visits and develop important, meaningful bonds that enable community connections. There are many other regular outings to libraries, museums, theatres, wildlife parks and more.
Kidz Kabin was invited to be featured in the 2019 Parliamentary Review, showcasing best practice in the early year’s sector. Kidz Kabin was a finalist for the 2018 National Nursery Recognition Award for Innovation.
Linda leads this innovation by example and trained as an advanced Forest School leader to develop her own learning. All settings now run Forest School sessions with children aged 3-4. Children are encouraged to find their voices in outdoor environments without man-made structures that restrict their play and learning. This builds their confidence with each other in natural environments.
Linda also started an allotment style area where children can grow fruit and vegetables. This encourages appreciation of the process by which food appears on their tables.
Linda has built diverse, inclusive nurseries where children are welcome from any background. Whatever their challenges, Kidz Kabin supports them through their learning and play experiences.
