Working for a cleaner, greener, safer environment

DO YOU:

  • WANT TO BE A PART OF YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY?
  • CARE ABOUT YOUR LOCAL ENVIRONMENT AND HOW YOUR GREEN SPACES ARE MAINTAINED?

The Muswell Hill and Fortis Green Association has over 700 members living in our area who pay just eight pounds a year per household and receive 6 newsletters containing information about association activities, local news, events and members letters.

We also hold members meetings at North Bank (Pages Lane) where talks are given and you have a chance to meet and chat with other members afterwards over coffee. We also organise an annual local walk.

WHY SHOULD YOU JOIN US?

The Muswell Hill and Fortis Green Association was formed in 1948 as a non-political amenity society. We concern ourselves with everything contributing to the local environment and quality of life in the Muswell Hill, Fortis Green and Alexandra wards.

Our earlier campaigns include successfully fighting against the proposed Archway Road motorway scheme (1973) and in 1974 – we vigorously opposed Haringey Council’s proposal to cut down nearly 4000 street trees in the western half of the borough. In 1981 we took part in the campaign to save the famous art deco Muswell Hill Odeon which was threatened with demolition. The cinema was saved and given Grade II status.

As an established local organisation we have been able to make successful bids to funding sources such as the Council’s ‘Making the Difference’ scheme and have been able to carry out numerous projects e.g.  the clearing and re-instatement of Grove Lodge Gardens, a pathway along Muswell Hill and the refurbishment of E.W.Langton’s 1899 clock, a famous local landmark on Muswell Hill Broadway, which had been threatened with removal.  We also secure external funding to support our current environmental initiatives such as the Colney Hatch Lane beds and the flower containers at the roundabout.

We are consulted on local planning applications and make comments as appropriate. We would be delighted if you would like to join the association. You can do this by completing and returning the form below
