An appointment with myself

Spa

Carving out a bit of time can make the world of difference, but why is it that we don’t give ourselves a break? When we get hungry or thirsty we notice the signals straight away and do something about it. But by the time you finally realise that you need a break you’ve probably found that your emotional well has run dry.

With the last vestige of “me time” AKA a chai latte having being kicked into touch by the Sugar Police (see The Guardian online article by Miles Brignall 17th Feb) I was worried that I would never, ever find 5 minutes peace and quiet for myself ever again. Like many other working mums, my life revolves around school runs, work, singing lessons, performing arts courses, play dates, cooking meals, packing school bags, unpacking school bags, washing, ironing, shopping, turning up trousers, turning down trousers, dealing with last minute requests to get the Red Nose day outfits, refereeing sibling arguments, booking cinema tickets; I’d continue but I’m sure you get the gist.

So when I was offered the chance to enjoy a CACI Ultra Anti-ageing facial at Spa Chic I jumped at the chance. CACI Ultra (pronounced kay-see) is a non-surgical treatment that can redefine facial contours, plump out deep lines and wrinkles and tackle other skin imperfections. It was a perfect way to see if anything could be done about the sudden appearance of a Deputy Dawg jowl and two creases between my eyebrows from scowling too much. It’s not a typical CACI facial as it involves Ultra Sonic peeling and LED light therapy (all might sound a bit technical but very safe and non abrasive – more below) but neither is it daunting in the way I know I would feel about Botox or going under the knife.

The treatment starts with a discussion about your skin, product use and usual routines. Then the skin is treated to a thorough cleansing and exfoliation with a unique peeling technique that provides a far gentler and less aggressive method of skin exfoliation than traditional microdermabrasion, which creates a tingling, but not unpleasant, sensation.

The next phase focuses on the muscles; two probes are placed around each muscle group, taken in turn, and send electric magnetic frequencies which mimic the body’s electrical file, making them tauter and encouraging them to become more elastic, thus making the face appear more youthful. This feels slightly alien as the skin is manipulated, but it’s not at all painful. Finally, a handset is used to plump out deeper wrinkles.

It is in effect a “workout” for the skin using hand-held wands to transmit microcurrents through your skin and facial muscles. This process increases elastin by 45%, collagen by 10% and the number of blood vessels by 35%. Elastin and collagen are what keep your skin plump and firm, and good blood flow will give you a glow. The treatment lasts 1.5 hours and in addition to having space and time to relax, my skin really looks amazing.

If you are looking for a way to relax, enjoy some me time and improve your skin the I recommend taking a closer look at the CACI Ultra treatments available at Spa Chic.
