The Music Connection

McBusted

Hello all, I hope that you’ve all been keeping well during the recent cold spell. Bring on the summer is what I say! Anyway, thank you for taking the time to read the March edition of ‘The Music Connection’.

McBustedThis month, I decided to write a feature on one of Crouch End’s most famous residents who has recently come back into the public eye, actor and musician Matt Willis.

Matt first found fame as the bassist and vocalist of the pop-rock band Busted, which he formed with band mates Charlie Simpson and James Bourne.  During their career, the trio became very successful in Britain and began an upsurge of pop-punk popularity. They had several chart successes and released two studio albums, one live album and a compilation of their greatest hits. The band split in 2005, due to Charlie Simpson leaving to pursue other projects. Matt then went on to launch a brief  but successful solo career, as well as appearing on the TV show  I’m a Celebrity…..Get me out of here in 2006, where he was crowned the winner.

Matt then went onto pursue various TV presenting projects, including stints on the BRIT Awards,  Big Brother, MTV, the BAFTA Awards, as well as a presenting I’m a Celebrity….Get me out of here in 2007 with his wife, the TV presenter Emma Willis.

Crouch End residentMatt also featured in a succession of celebrity based TV shows, including Ready, Steady, Cook and The Weakest Link.  Alongside presenting, Matt has also featured as an actor in The Bill & Casualty.

Last year, it was also announced that Matt Willis would play Garth Stubbs in the revival of Birds of a Feather, as well as a character called Luke in EastEnders.

Much to the delight of music fans, Matt Willis and James Bourne also made a surprise brief reunion as Busted, when they joined McFly as special guests during McFly’s 10th anniversary concerts at the Royal Albert Hall.  An announcement then followed that McBusted would tour in 2014,

In December 2013, McBusted announced that they would be headlining a concert in Hyde Park, with support from the Backstreet BoysFiveScouting for Girls and Diversity.

Emma and MattIn regards to Matt’s personal life, he currently lives in Crouch End with his wife of 5 years Emma and daughter Isabelle, who was born in June 2009.

For the purpose of this article, Matt has stated that some of his favourite Crouch End haunts include the guitar shop Rock Around The Clock on Park Road, his local gym Virgin Active on Tottenham Lane and Capelli’s gentleman’s barbers on Crouch Hill.
