The Circus is the theme for this year’s Highgate Fair in the Square on Saturday June 13th running from 12.30pm to 5.30pm in Pond Square and South Grove, London N6 5BS. Admission is free and thousands flock to this annual fun day out of vibrant music, live performances, colourful stalls, fair rides, children’s creative activities and traditional attractions, such as Morris Dancers, Punch & Judy and the ever popular Sheep Show.
The Circus comes to the Fair thanks to the contribution of Highgate’s Jacksons Lane, a leading venue for contemporary circus arts in the UK. Over 20 circus artists will conduct skills workshops for all ages throughout the afternoon and perform juggling, trampoline and balancing acts. They include exciting performers, such as Silver Lining, Kaveh Rahnama, and Acrojou with their ‘Wheelhouse’ acrobatic show involving a seven foot diameter German wheel.
A Helter Skelter is a new addition to the swings and roundabout rides for children to enjoy. They can also be creative in the Cass Art kids’ tent making circus hats or modelling plasticine animals or have their faces painted.
Live performances from local choirs, schools, musicians and dancers run on the stage in Pond Square throughout the afternoon. The Hornsey School for Girls Steel Band opens the Fair to create the carnival spirit, whilst the cast of ‘There’s a Guy Works Down The Chip Shop Swears He’s Elvis’ playing at ‘Upstairs at the Gatehouse’ will perform numbers from the show. New Fair performers are contemporary dance group, Transform; Highgate Primary School Choir; Give in to Dance and blues band, The Archway Mountain Lightnin’ Boys.
Thanks to the contribution of local charities, Highgate shops and small businesses over 100 stalls will line the streets selling crafts, plants, clothes, books and a tempting range of international foods.
The Fair would not happen without the generous support of all our sponsors. We are delighted that Litchfields is the headline sponsor for the second year running. Our principal sponsors are Benham & Reeves, Camden Council, Casablanca Hire, Cass Art, Day Morris, Highgate Private Hospital, The Ham & High, the Highgate Society, The Highgate Literary & Scientific Institution and Prickett & Ellis Underhill.
The Fair is organised by a group of local people but we also need around 100 volunteers to help out on the day with setting up and clearing away as well as stewarding, so if you can spare two hours on the day, please email email@example.com stating ‘Volunteers’ in the subject line.
