The Fair goes local and the Dog Show is back!
The Fair in the Square is going more local on Saturday 15 June with lots of societies and businesses in the Highgate area getting involved in this great day out for the community and visitors. They represent the majority of the 150 stalls that will be selling world food, crafts, books and plants or showcasing local activities. John Plews from Upstairs at the Gatehouse has lined up local talent to provide the live entertainment from the Pond Square stage, The Highgate and Muswell Hill Brass Band will be opening the Fair and there will be a wealth of other free entertainment going on throughout the afternoon.
The Dog Show is back thanks to Betty Bs Dog Grooming and The Highgate Vet, whose Allan Rapley will be judging Best Junior (up to 1 year), Best Female, Best Male, Best Senior (over 10 years), Best Training Trick and then the winners for Best in Show. If you want to show your best friend putting their best paw forward just turn up for 1.30 on the performance area outside The Flask pub.
Jacksons Lane’s brilliant circus performers are preparing another stunning act to wow the crowds. There will be plenty of free activities for children – Mini Mozart is joined by Shenanigan slime makers, the Little Owl Book Club, Little Imaginations drama group and other kids activities run by Lauderdale House in the Kids Tent and the ever popular Sheep Show is. There will be Stiltwalkers dressed as bees, close-up Magicians and as always St Michael’s Church will be serving up home-baked cakes in its Café and offering its spectacular Tower Tours as well as a performance by the Choir.
‘The aim of the Fair is to bring all strands of the community together for a great day out. People can catch up with friends, hear about what all the local organisations are doing, enjoy all the free entertainment as well as sampling all the produce the stalls have to offer. We hope there is something for everyone’, said Sarah Thomas, Chair of the Fair’s organising committee.
The Fair is a free event thanks to a volunteer team and its sponsors: Principal sponsors are Camden Council, Highgate Society, HLSI, Ham&High, Dexter’s estate agent, Streathers Solicitors, the Ham&High, Highpoint Dental Clinic and The Witanhurst Foundation; supporting in kind are Day Morris, Mini Mozart Music School The Highgate Vet, Betty B Dog Groomers and The Prince of Wales pub.
