Palmers Green High School (PGHS) specialises in educating girls and was founded in 1905 by Miss Alice Hum. The school motto, “By Love Serve One Another” was carefully chosen by our Founder and it still epitomises our special ethos today.
We are a highly successful School and this year’s GCSE results were outstanding with 53% graded at A*/9/8 and 79% graded at A*/9 to A/7. The School is currently ranked 2nd in The Sunday Times national league table for small independent schools.
At 11+ we welcome girls from local schools who join us in Year 7 after sitting the Entrance & Scholarship exam in January. During the assessments, we are looking for the potential to learn and give the girls several opportunities to really shine and demonstrate what they can do and what they are interested in.
Girls settle in quickly and enjoy high quality, teaching in small classes which enables them to make rapid progress and achieve impressive results across all subjects. Pupils are able to develop their creative talents with visits from prize-winning authors, poets, illustrators, Olympic medalists and professional artists from the Royal Academy. PGHS has excellent STEM facilities including a fully equipped Design & Technology room, a well-resourced ICT suite and dedicated Science labs.
It is very important to us that we also equip girls for success in more than just their academic results. The School encourages all girls to be involved in a variety of extracurricular activities and to enjoy activities beyond the classroom. We have sports teams, choirs, orchestra, debating, Literary society, STEM club, book club, speech and drama to name but a few.
There are of course huge benefits from being at an all girls’ school. Research and evidence conclude that your daughter will have fewer distractions, will benefit from teachers who are trained to teach girls, be in a focused educational and community environment where her career aspirations will not be limited or discouraged. I rather like the quote from Robin Robertson:
“When girls go to single-sex schools, they stop being the audience and become the players.”
We are very proud of our School and would be delighted to welcome you to one of our Open Days or for a personalised tour. Our 11+ Entrance & Scholarship examination takes place on Saturday 19th January 2019. Further details can be found at www.pghs.co.uk
