The Crown of Shadows

Movie Making

8-12 April 2019

“She’s never been so enthused by a camp before now. She’s loving it.” Mrs Green, parent

Who will win the race of scheming, betrayals and dark arts to claim the Crown of Shadows?

Take part over the Easter holidays and make a dramatic, action-packed fantasy battle adventure movie!

Movie makers will explore how to produce epic battle scenes, how to master stunts and fight choreography, not to mention full-on production design, cinematic camera skills, special effects and all the behind the scenes magic it takes to make a movie.

“I’ve loved starring in our movie, as well as learning how to film all the shots and how to edit them together.” Ben, age 12

What’s involved:

Over an action-packed week, the crews explore every aspect of movie making – from camera skills, directing, acting for camera, production design and even more – as they work to produce their own original epic fantasy movie.

They devise the storylines and the characters, as well as shooting the movie, taking on responsibility for lots of different creative areas. The whole process is fun, imaginative and very “hands-on”, with lots to take part in.

We work in peer age groups (studios) with small group sizes with a high staff ratio (typically 1:8) so there is plenty of opportunity for everyone to get stuck in and lots of personalised attention to each participant.

At the end, parents and families are invited along to a special sharing presentation, where the movie makers proudly present their work and their experiences. Each movie maker also gains a certificate and a copy of the finished movie production to add to their portfolios.

The movie makers love the experience of taking on lots of different creative roles and responsibilities. They enjoy taking ownership and show pride in sharing their work. Parents can feel confident, knowing their child is fully engaged, having fun and developing new skills. It’s a joy to watch when they proudly share their finished production.

“My son rated his day 10 million out of 10.” Helen Eastman
