“I always look forward to the Crouch End Open Studios weekend; it makes me feel part of the community and glad to live in N8. My friends and I have a regular date and thoroughly enjoy our afternoons mooching around lovely Crouch End houses looking at the gorgeous art work on our doorstep…I love meeting the artists and having a chance to see where the work is produced…” A regular CEOS visitor
WHAT IS CROUCH END OPEN STUDIOS?
CEOS is a long established free event in which local artists exhibit their work in a range of N8 venues over a weekend in May. All are walking distance from central Crouch End and visitors can drop in on as few or as many artists as they choose. There is something to interest everyone with paintings, prints, ceramics, sculpture, film and photography on show.
Artists range from the emerging to well-established professionals. Between them they have participated in prestigious awards such as the Threadneedle Prize, BP Portrait Award, the National Open Art Competition and the Jerwood Drawing Prize, and they’ve exhibited at international art fairs and in galleries including the Royal Academy, The Royal Society of Portrait Painters and the Royal College of Art.
If you are a regular CEOS visitor you will probably have some favourite artists, and you can explore the work of seven fabulous new contributors this year.
PLAN YOUR VISITS
Leaflets are delivered to your door and available locally, or look up all information about artists and venue on our website.
Visit the Group Show at The Original Gallery at Hornsey Library in which all artists have at least one piece of art work; this can be a great place to start your visits as you can discover your favourites and plan a route using the map provided.
FIND ART FOR YOUR OWN HOME
Buying work directly from the artist, in a relaxed and unpressured atmosphere, can be an excellent way to start an art collection for your home. CEOS shows such a varied selection of art work that it’s easy to find something that ‘speaks to you’.
“Seeing how artists lived with their art, where they stopped and their art began, afforded me a new perspective on art and the making of art, a perspective very different from the one you get looking at art in austere gallery spaces….The realization that people were making art all around me, literally around the corner, allowed me I think to entertain the idea that I too might make art one day”
Bo Fowler, exhibiting with CEOS for the first time in 2017
