Aromatherapy to the rescue for flu

There are many identified and unidentified viruses which are given the name ‘flu. Viral attacks that involve fever, tiredness, coughs, colds, muscular pain and exhaustion are all likely to be given this label. When you feel the onset of flu, treatment needs to be quick; aimed at raising immunity levels as well as combating the virus.

If you are shivery and cold, and feel that you have the onset of something more, take a warm bath to which you should add the following oils : Tea tree 5 drops, Lavender 2 drops and Thyme 2 drops. Just lie back, inhale the steamy vapours and soothe away the discomfort. After your bath massage your whole body with a blend of the following oils:  Tea tree 2 drops and Eucalyptus 3 drops diluted in 1 tablespoon of olive oil or sweet almond oil – and then off to bed.

For chest congestion, a steam inhalation treatment prepared with basil, pine, and/ or tea tree oil can help to clear mucus and ease breathing. For nasal congestion, add a couple of drops of Eucalyptus to a tissue and place beside you on the pillow; you will soon find your airways clearing.

To keep your bedroom free from airborne infections, add 2 of drops of Tea tree and 2 drops of Lavender to the water reservoir of a diffuser, light a tea light and allow to burn for an hour or so. Fumigate the house with oils to help prevent the spread of flu. Put 2-3 drops on a tissue and place on a radiator to evaporate or add 10 drops of essential oils to a small plant spray filled with water. Spray the room frequently.
