Dementia Club UK welcomes those with Alzheimer’s and other forms of Dementia and their carers and families to meet and talk in a relaxed atmosphere over a cup of tea/coffee and cakes. Professional speakers sometimes attend the sessions to provide information and advice and we have 2 GPs who volunteer their time and attend most sessions to take blood pressures and also to answer any medical concerns.
The Dementia Club was founded by Councillor Lisa Rutter, former Mayor of the London Borough of Barnet. Lisa is also the Borough’s Ageing Well and Mental Health Champion.
Lisa has been running the very successful Dementia Club since 2013 and aims to continue providing more sessions at different locations. Lisa is currently running 10 dementia clubs in the Borough of Barnet and 1 in Borehamwood.
Dementia and has become a growing concern especially as we are living longer. The main aim of a Dementia Club is to provide much-needed respite to carers and those living with these conditions; to give them all the chance to meet socially and make new friends; take part in gentle exercise and fun activities and above all to give them hope.
