Let’s talk about Breast Cancer

Spinning class

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017 and went through some challenging times over the course of the year.  Just as I was putting it behind me, last Christmas I was told that I had to undergo a hysterectomy to eliminate potential issues related to my condition. It completely threw me and was a huge setback to my physical and emotional recovery. It took me 11 weeks to recover from the operation but today, three months on, I am stronger and fitter than I have ever been. And that is down to the wonderful trainers at the Fit Club in Whetstone. Matt Vier, who manages the studio has been absolutely supportive so as Claire Zimmerman who is probably one of the best spinning instructors in the UK!

I began taking spinning classes with Claire last year. I am completely hooked and, apart from the weeks of after the operation, I do whatever the weather, whatever the time at least twice a week. With encouragement and motivation, alongside the excellent facilities and the brilliant playlists, the class is an absolute hit. I come out with a huge grin on my face, pumped up and ready to face the world. In fact, I enjoy it so much that last week I celebrated my 51st birthday with friends and family at a special ‘Soul Spin’ class!

It would be an understatement to say that spinning has saved me from depression. It has kept me anchored, and given me a structure and the motivation to keep on going. As crazy as it sounds, it has helped me heal. I know that there are many people, and women in particular, who are going through similar experiences to mine. And I wanted to encourage them to think about taking up the sport to aid their recovery.

Sharing with you some photos of the amazing evening we had as well!
