Community group Friends of St James Square are seeking volunteers.
St James Square, across the road from the church, is nothing like a square in shape but it provides a convenient public space for meetings and community events or simply sitting in the sun and studying the pigeons.
In 2016 a non-trading company, THE FRIENDS OF ST JAMES SQUARE LIMITED, was formed. In recent years it has established a regular pattern of arranging two community events a year, Midsummer Muswell and, in the run up to Christmas, A Very Merry Muswell. These have been arranged in partnership with St James Church and we have provided musical and other entertainment on both sides of the road, including craft stalls and stalls for local organisations and for the sale of food and drink and activities for children. In good weather everyone enjoys themselves on the square but in bad weather the church provides a warm alternative: it’s a win-win.
At the start of another year we are wondering whether we can do more to promote the square as a community resource. We would welcome ideas from new members who might like to join the Board or simply assist with publicity and help on the day.
