Boom-Tish! Comedy and Variety took over residency at The Music Palace, in the heart of North London’s vibrant Crouch End, in May 2011. Tom Barrie and business partner Nick Dear have lived and worked in the area for over 20 years and created this event in order to bring together a supportive and generous community, that is non exclusive and a rarity in comparison to many other parts of London. Tom’s background is that of a trained actor and later theatre Producer, whilst Nick works in TV PR for ITV, Channel 4 and FIVE.
The Music Palace, although a fabulous building, was very much underused until we started to perform there and gave it a stronger presence on the N8 map. It also tapped into the plethora of local celebrities and media professionals etc that live locally or in surrounding enclaves.
Boom-Tish! attributes its continued success, to the fact that the we present comedy AND variety acts, offering a broader choice for our ever increasing audiences. Having been to numerous other shows in London, our unique format allows us to stand independently from many other comedy producers.
From inception, it has always been our long term plan, to nurture new and rising talent and to set up a Boom-Tish! night in other areas. This has since now been developed and we now present shows of varying lengths that can be accommodated at festivals, private parties and corporate events. As we have earned our comedy stripes, we are also working more with some of the bigger names on the comedy circuit too. Last Summer, in conjunction with the prestigious Old Vic Tunnels in Waterloo, we produced a comedy and variety festival. 3 days, in 4 rooms and over 80 acts, from those with minimal experience, to names such as Patrick Monahan, Bob Mills, Scott Capurro, Lucy Porter and Henning Wehn.
Due to our past successes and proven track history, we have been offered some great opportunities for 2013 and are now seeking a partner, that can support us in our development and growth and at the same time, allow us to spread both brands further afield. These include Latitude Festival in July, three nights of Edinburgh previews at the newly opened Park Theatre in Finsbury Park. We are also providing the comic talent for the Old Vic Theatre, for a monthly event called Sunday Wise, at The Ivy Club in the heart of the West End and for a series of ongoing webisodes on Hunger TV, for world renowned photographer, Rankin.
In August we will return to the newly refurbished and renamed venue in Crouch End, The Art House. It is our plan to produce a live streaming event, with the potential to reach millions as well as other big shows.
Comedy aside and an important element from the off, was that at each of our events,we would help raise awareness and much needed funds, for local and national charities. As we have from day one, we will invite a well known face to our evening. The celebrity takes to the stage to talk about a charity they support and we then raise funds for the chosen cause. In the past we have gained celebrity support from Tamzin Outhwaite, Tony Hadley, Les Dennis. Jimi Mistry, Kate Thornton, Sue Johnstone, Tom Ellis, Lauren Laverne and Chico!!! to name just a few and thousand of pounds donated to charities, including The James Baldwin Trust, Save the Children, Great Ormond Street, Refuge, Kind, Action Aid and Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Many notable names have agreed to support us a forthcoming shows.
It is an exciting 2013 [and beyond] for us and we hope you can join us!
