Craig Zahler, who brought us Bone Tomahawk and Brawl in Cell Block 99, returns to write and direct this intriguing crime-thriller that frequently delights but also frustrates. At 2hrs 40min this could have done with some editing as Zahler gets a little carried away with his story about two cops (the brilliant onscreen duo of Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn) who get suspended and who turn to the criminal world to make some quick cash. Gibson and Vaughn are magnetic and command the screen at all times and Zahler’s penchant for brutal violence is present and accounted for, but there are big plot-holes that really affect the narrative flow. A real shame because with a little tweaking this could have been another Tarantino movie.
