Film Review – THE IRISHMAN – 4 stars (out 8th Nov)

3 Male leads from Film The Irishman

This is the big one. Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci & Martin Scorsese re-team up for this eagerly anticipated crime-drama that will debut on Netflix at the end of November, but will have a limited theatrical run first. It had the honour of closing this year’s BFI London Film Festival and now Scorsese’s three and a half hour epic arrives to fanfare. It’s as assured and riveting as you’d expect, but with much more calculated performances from both De Niro and especially Pesci, who radiates quiet menace. Al Pacino is gloriously full-on though as Jimmy Hoffa, who uses the skills of mob hitman Frank Sheeran (De Niro). This true story is a crime-epic and one that won’t disappoint fans of Casino or Goodfellas.
