Right at this moment it’s ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution’ by AC/DC (at full volume). Got a big gig tonight so warming up with a spot of head banging followed by 30 minutes of air guitar. After that it’s a few practice stage dives off the arms of the sofa, half a bottle of cough mixture and an aspirin. Match fit!
How did you get into music?
As kids we were always sneaking into pub venues to listen to music and hopefully get served. After that, joining a rock band just seemed like the easiest way of never having to grow up. I guess every band has their ups and downs, but once you know you can get a kick out of music it becomes addictive. Smashing out a wall of noise and not having a care in the world for anything other than guitar notes – it’s way better than yoga, anti-depressants or even skydiving.
Who do you follow religiously on Twitter?
The Dalai Lama – he’s got some great one-liners.
What have you been reading lately?
I’ve just finished ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’. It was taxing, but I got to the end and I’m pretty sure I understood most of it. Usually I don’t like sequels but this one was actually pretty good – bit like War and Peace but with a happier ending. I’m writing a book myself about a blob from outer space that comes down to Earth to steal a birthday cake. It’s called ‘Aliens Like Birthday Cake Too’. Might stick to the music though …
Who is the most influential person in your life?
Our bass player Adam Kilemore Gardens. He taught me that rock and roll is a state of being.
Which song do you wish you had written?
Anything off the LP Doolittle by the Pixies. Those tracks can make you dance, laugh, think and despair all in the space of 2 minutes.
Does God exist?
If he does I think he’s hiding. Pretty sure he’s not on Facebook.
We’re at the bar. What are you drinking?
Ah! Well if you’re paying, I’ll have a ‘Damn Vandaliser’ please – it’s a cocktail Chris the drummer invented when we were raiding his mum’s drink cabinet one night. It’s basically tequila, rum, vodka, slow gin, fast gin, crushed ice and a shot of neat Ribena. A few of those and you know it’s going to be a good night …
Who would you dread getting stuck in a lift with?
Anyone who’s been on the ‘Damn Vandaliser’ cocktails all night.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
Just the usual really; astronaut, fighter pilot, spy, super hero, train driver, Bob the Builder etc …
What song will you have played at your funeral?
Gangnam Style. Everyone would have to do the dance. For once I’d be the only person in the room not acting like a complete fool.
What gigs, songs or albums are you promoting at the moment?
There’s lots of gigs in and out of London coming up, as well as festivals – best to check online for all the latest … We’ve also got an album called ‘Done For Desire’ which is out now – it’s a ten track, 30 minute rollercoaster, so please check that out. Plus ‘Kings of Never’ is our latest single.
