Q&A with Kirsty Churchill (she’d like to paint Black Cabs electric blue)

Kirsty Churchill

Kirsty’s connection to Muswell Hill:  Her main writer, Mark Herbert, lives in Muswell Hill having moved from the flat lands near Wimbledon in South London three years ago.  He is apparently enjoying the view from the slopes of North London and working with Kirsty (“a real talent”).  Just as importantly, he is also a reader of the “Muswell Flyer.”

What are you listening to right now?

At the moment I absolutely love Sam smith his music is so meaningful and emotional. I also love Little Mix – they are good to sing along to in the car.

How did you get into music?

I have always loved to sing.  As a small child I was always singing and making up my own songs. But it was after singing at a christening that people – and I! – realised I could actually sing in tune and from there I went for singing lessons every Tuesday and Saturday.

Who do you follow religiously on Twitter?

I can’t say there is any particular person that I follow religiously but I do check out the likes of Rita Ora a lot.  I think she is really cool.

What have you been reading lately?

I don’t actually read a lot I never seem to find the time. I do love a trashy magazine though and I do read BBC News on my phone.

Who is the most influential person in your life?

My mum she has always taught me never to give up no matter what. And that you have to work to succeed – nothing just comes to you. You need to go out and get it whether you are chasing a dream or your job etc.

Which song do you wish you had written?

Oooo tough one.. Probably something like Stand By Me.  Covered by so many great people, that is one of my favourite songs.  Or something by Whitney like “I will always love you” with its amazing vocal range.

We’re at the bar. What are you drinking?

A glass of Rose or a glass of coke if it’s day time (ha ha).

Who would you dread getting stuck in a lift with?

Anyone that had a phobia of lifts. Or a zombie, that would be scary.  And probably terminal.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

Other than wanting to be in a girl band (Wannabe by the Spice Girls is a guilty pleasure) I actually wanted to be a vet as I love animals and thought I would make a good pet!

If you could change on thing about London, what would it be?

I would change black cabs to a more exciting colour, like my favourite colour, electric blue

What gigs, songs or albums are you promoting at the moment?

I’m currently promoting my first single Those Three Words due to be released in November.  It’s all about finding the right way to say I love you to someone. And it’s mainly written by Mark Herbert who, I know, lives in Muswell Hill.

How can we find out more about you?

You can follow me on Twitter @ChurchillKirstyor Facebook Kirsty Churchill. You will get information of upcoming songs gigs etc. you can also keep up to date on my label website www.bigbedrecords.com
