Ollie GeorgiouLadies & Gents of London and beyond, Hello and welcome to the September/October edition of The Music Connection.  I hope that you’ve all enjoyed the summer.

This month, I interviewed a guy from one of the biggest British boybands of the early 2000s, Ollie Georgiou (AKA MC Freek) from the music group ‘Blazin Squad.

Blazin’ Squad were an English band, whose music was a mixture of Hip Hop, R&B and Pop. The group had top ten hits, including “Crossroads”, “We Just Be Dreamin” and“Flip Reverse”. Their success continued until they went on a hiatus in 2006; only to reunite on a handful of occasions since.

Q. So Ollie, tell me; how did you first get into the music industry?
A.  Me and the boys (Blazin’ Squad) went down to make a demo just for a laugh, in a recording studio in Walthamstow, East London. The next minute, we had East West records sign us to their record label and the rest is history!

Q. What do you think are your biggest achievements within the music industry so far?
I would say headlining an arena tour, with Wembley Arena being the homecoming gig. Also, our Number 1 record for sure!

Q. What projects are you up to at the moment?
I am into Music Management with my business partner.  The company is called Hopski Management. We have 2 incredible projects we are working on at the moment. Georgie Keller is a super cool 17 year old singer, whose voice is top drawer and is getting better!!!

We also have a fantastic house artist called Dillinger Deburgh, whose sound is crazy! He really has created a new up and coming sound and is making his EP as we speak. He has got serious talent and will be hitting Ibiza VERY SOON!

Q. What do you think the future holds in store for Ollie Georgiou?

A. Hopefully a successful spell in music management, I enjoy developing artists. I think it’s important to use my experience in the industry to help others! I also organise fundraising events for a charity called Tree of Hope, who help sick children; so I hope to continue raising money for them.

Q. What one piece of advice would you give to someone trying to make it within the music industry?

Blazin Squad A. Don’t underestimate social media and online presence. The first 3 questions any record label will ask nowadays, is how many Twitter followers? How many Facebook Likes? How many You Tube views? Make sure you build a fan base and don’t give up, as you never know when your time will come.

Q. Favourite music artists?
A. Emeli Sande and Eminem,

Q. What are your links with Crouch End?
A. One of my favourite restaurants is MONKEY NUTS in Crouch End. My mum is also buried in Highgate Cemetery just up the road, so I pass through Crouch End a lot.

Final words to the people of North London?
A. Come On You Spurs!!! Please also follow me and my Blazin’ Squad band mates on Twitter at @olliegeorgiou, @stu_baker1, @bangthedj, @mojammusic, @Meloteamgt, @Sam_Foulksey @kenzofficial_ and @blazinsquad. We have a huge announcement coming soon!!
