I’m listening to the new Mathew Dear album, alot of my friends have been raving about it. I love the Her Fantasy video!
How did you get into music?
My background is in performing, acting, dance. I trained at the Sylvia Young theatre school in the 90s and then went on to university (DeMontfort University) to study Contemporary Dance, so my initial aims lent more towards dance, though an inherent love of music is what lead me to dance. My Father was a DJ on the Northern Soul scene and my Brother is a musician, I fell into music through the club scene in London around 2004 when I was about 20. I used to go to places like The Nag Nag Nag in Soho and Anti Social and later Boombox, there was a real DIY approach to both fashion and in some cases the music which in places like The Nag Nag Nag was quite electroclash orientated. Anyway I loved the whole attitude of being the artist, being in control, wearing your own clothes and making your own music and staging your own shows so that is exactly what I did. I guess fusing my performing background with it also.
Who do you follow religiously on Twitter?
To be honest I don’t do a lot of celeb following. I follow my friends as they are mostly creative people so I’m always interested in what they are doing!
I’m learning how to cook properly so a wealth of recipe books. Oh and a book on haunted London!
Who is the most influential person in your life?
My brother Andrew. He is a musical genius. He plays every instrument, writes inspiring music, produces for other artists and is incredibly patient!
Which song do you wish you had written?
Anything on the Scary Monsters album (David Bowie)
Does God exist?
I’m not really sure! I would like to think so. I will wait for the surprise!
A glass of red
Who would you dread getting stuck in a lift with?
What did you want to be when you grew up?
Happy, accomplished, fulfilled
What song will you have played at your funeral?
I decided recently that for my funeral everyone can wear what they want and for it to be a happy, light and almost jovial affair. I would like to be cremated and my ashes scattered on the shore of Porthmour Beach at St Ives Cornwall. Music wise hmm I think An Ending (Ascent) by Brian Eno would be quite nice for the occasion.
What gigs, songs or albums are you promoting at the moment?
I’m promoting a brand new song I have just recorded with Producer /DJ/Musician Massimo Paramour. It’s called Waiting and it will be out very soon. It sounds a very cliche thing to say but I consider it to be the best thing I have done so far. Working with Massimo has been a real education as he is so talented as both an artist and musician so its really exciting to be getting it out there.
