Q&A with Mary from Me for Queen

Q&A with Me for Queen

What are you listening to right now?

“That Diamond Lust” by Myshkin’s Ruby Warblers. I supported her last year in Norwich and it’s a great album.

How did you get into music?

I started piano when I was 5 – it was my mum’s idea at the time but I soon fell in love with it. My Dad plays blues guitar and used to sing a fair bit at home – but at the time I was mortified, of course.

Who do you follow religiously on Twitter?

Don’t know if any of my ‘follows’ are that religious… Sarah Silverman’s timeline consistently makes me laugh.

What have you been reading lately?

A new short story by the fantastic OK David

Who is the most influential person in your life?

Sounds a bit naff but my parents amaze me on an almost daily basis. My other half is pretty cool too.

Which song do you wish you had written?

Hmm, I was just listening to Fleet Foxes this week and ‘Montezuma’ is still one of my favourite songs. The melody feels so natural and timeless, almost hymn-like. It’s a beautiful opener.

We’re at the bar. What are you drinking?

Depends who’s paying. You: a mojito. Me: ½ lime sodas all round.

Who would you dread getting stuck in a lift with?

Anyone who is either as scared or more scared than me of being stuck in a lift.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I taught all of my dolls to write and spell with a quite meticulous attention to detail. So, probably a teacher.

What’s been the best thing about the summer?

The album launch! on the 17th September of course!

What gigs, songs or albums are you promoting at the moment?

The album, Iron Horse, along with the beautiful video that Tom Palliser has made for our song, White Bike.
