Q&A with Lizzy Spit

Lizzy Spit

Lizzy Spit singerWhat are you listening to right now?

Currently listening to: Lana Del Rey (never stop listening actually!) Alt-J, Sub Focus and The Eagles.

How did you get into music?

I’ve always listened to music – my parents used to pump bands like Queen, The Eagles and Electric Light Orchestra down the stereo for as far back as I can remember, so it has always been a huge part of my life. Playing music however came a lot later – I started singing when I was 11, but didn’t pick up the guitar and start writing songs until I was 17.

Who do you follow religiously on Twitter?

This is going to expose my secret addiction to celebrities. Taylor Swift, Katy PErry, Rhianna, Miley Cyrus – oh and I absolutely can’t live without Buzzfeed. James Blunt is also someone I follow based on the fact that his tweets are hilarious.

What have you been reading lately?

I am re-reading The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides – this really is my all time favourite book and I love the film adaption directed by Sofia Coppola. The story is beautifully told and totally harrowing. I have read it about 100 times!

Who is the most influential person in your life?

I am going to have to say two – and those people are my sisters. As cheesy as it sounds, they really are my very best friends and always know what to say when I need help/advice etc…

Lizzy SpitWhich song do you wish you had written?

I really have no idea where to start on this question. It’s simply too tough! But, I suppose if I have to give one answer it would be: Sweet Child of Mine by good ol’ G&R!

We’re at the bar. What are you drinking?

Southern Comfort and Lemonade or a Mojito.

Who would you dread getting stuck in a lift with?

A creepy little ghost child. Have you seen the prank on YouTube? Gave me nightmares for week.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a ballerina, but very quickly it transpired that a) I was too tall b) my feet were too big and c) dancing wasn’t my talent. I then decided I wanted to be a gymnast – but as I only had a forward roll in my repertoire, my options there were also limited.

What are you looking forward to in 2014?

I’ve just returned home to the UK from living in Australia for the past 2 years, so I’m really looking forward to catching up with friends, getting back into UK life and most importantly, playing music in my home country!

What gigs, songs or albums are you promoting at the moment?

Currently booking lots of gigs, but off the top of my head I’ve got one on the 20th March at 12 Bar, Denmark Street, London – then one at The Bedford in Balham on May 19th. Come June 14th I’ll be playing at a brand new festival called Behind The Castle in Dorset with acts like Newton Faulkner and Seth Lakeman. Very excited!  I actually have many plans for the near future, I’ll be releasing my 4 track studio ep on April 1st – it’s called Trouble Lies Deep, and plenty of video material too via my YouTube channel.
