Q&A with Robert Bearsby

Robert Bearsby

What are you listening to right now?

I was actually just this minute listening to the ‘Fools and Worthless Liars’ album by Deaf Havana, I’ve been following them for years and it’s awesome to see them doing so well! I’m listening to Haim a lot at the moment too, they have a great sound and when i first heard ‘The Wire’ i had it stuck in my head for days!
How did you get into music?

I definitely got into music because of my dad, his favourite bands are AC/DC and Thin Lizzy so he was the person who introduced me to the guitar and then encouraged me to learn it. I used to practice really loud.. I remember once I was playing along to an AC/DC track when my dad shouted something, walked in, turned my amp up and walked out and I remember thinking… I’m sure that wasn’t how that was suppose to go…

Who do you follow religiously on Twitter?

Robert BearsbyI’m relatively new to twitter to be honest but I really like following music magazines and blogs as they keep me up to date and introduce me to new music. My new obsession is Vice magazine and all of the amazing documentaries they post. The other day I watched one about a guy who injects himself with snake venom.. what!?
What have you been reading lately?

I’ve just finished reading Anthony Kiedis’s biography which was brilliant, I couldn’t put it down! I would definitely recommend it to anyone whether you like the Chilli Peppers or not. You find yourself reading it and just shouting out “no.. don’t do it! noooo! … ah he did it”.
Who is the most influential person in your life?

Influential is a great word.. I have a lot of people that inspire me but I think the most influential person in my life is once again my dad. I always run every major decision I have past him. I might not listen to what he says but we still talk everything through.
Robert BearsbyWhich song do you wish you had written?

Probably ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ I don’t think Noddy Holder has had to do a lot since.
Does God exist?

Yes, his name is Justin Vernon and he has a band called Bon Iver.

We’re at the bar. What are you drinking?

I actually don’t drink anymore. I used to manage a bar in Queenstown in New Zealand for a couple of years which I think scarred me for life. I just woke up one day, decided to stop drinking and haven’t drunk since. If you’d asked me that last year though it would’ve been a spiced rum with ginger ale, a lime wedge and plenty of them!
Who would you dread getting stuck in a lift with?

Probably Michael Myers from Halloween.. he never says anything and he enjoys killing people.
What did you want to be when you grew up?

Well I’ve always wanted to be a musician ever since I was really young, it’s really the only thing I’ve ever been interested in. Saying that though, apparently I once told my mum I wanted to be a fish when I grew up.
What song will you have played at your funeral?

Weirdly I was telling my sister this yesterday.. Without a doubt I want ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ by Queen played at my funeral. I refuse to believe that anyone could listen to that song without smiling, singing a long or laughing. I also want the song title engraved on my tombstone. RIP Robert Bearsby ‘Don’t Stop Me Now!’.

What gigs, songs or albums are you promoting at the moment?

At the moment I am promoting the release of my very first single ‘Late Nights & Traffic Lights’ which is available NOW! I have no idea what to expect… I’m just happy to say that my music is now available on iTunes!

How can we find out more about you?

Just type Robert Bearsby into google and you’ll find me
