Q&A with Vita & the Vicious

Vita & The Vicious

What are you listening to right now?

Right this minute, Amanda Palmer’s ‘The Art of Asking: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Let People Help’ on audiobook, but that is leading me to listen to her music and The Dresden Dolls. I’m also listening to Blur’s The Magic Whip. I’m so happy that it went straight to the top of the new vinyl chart… and that there IS a new vinyl chart. The Vaccines new stuff is brilliant too.

How did you get into music?

I sang in shows in school, and then theatre groups. It was always something I loved. Not just singing, but performing.

Who do you follow religiously on Twitter?

Caitlin Moran, Juliette Lewis and the aforementioned Amanda Palmer. For anyone in the music industry, I’d also recommend Tim Ingham’s @musicbizworld – essential reading.

What have you been reading lately?

Caitlin Moran’s ‘How to Build a Girl’

Who is the most influential person in your life?

Louisa Scott, my writing partner, business partner and friend.

Which song do you wish you had written?

Unquestionably ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’

We’re at the bar. What are you drinking?

Whisky and ginger, or a glass of full bodied red please. Thanks for asking.

Who would you dread getting stuck in a lift with?

Patrick Bateman.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A mermaid.

If you could change on thing about London, what would it be?

I adore London, so I don’t want to nitpick, but where I come from people get much more excited about going out of a night. If they make a plan they stick to it, they get dressed up and they really go all out to enjoy it. I think because there is just SO much to do here, people are more blasé. There’s something to be said for the casual approach but I kinda like the whole ‘making an occasion of it’ thing… Or maybe I’m just hanging with the wrong crowd!

What gigs, songs or albums are you promoting at the moment?

Oooh thanks for asking. Our EP, available on Amazon and through our website. We’re playing Cargo on June 13th and The Workshop on June 25th. We’re also incredibly excited to be supporting Lisa Ronson (daugher of Mick) for her album launch on 15th September at The Borderline. She’s amazing. Check her out.
