The Muswell Hill Traders’ Group is very proud to announce that from now on we are going to have this page on our favourite magazine to keep you informed about what we have been up too. Keep an eye on this page to follow what happened and what will happen around Muswell Hill. We are going to have lots of exciting news and events to report in this section.
So, to get started we have chosen an amazing event put together by the traders from the Avenue Mews.
As the 6 Nations Rugby tournament drew to an unexpected close and a formidable dose of wind and rain announced the arrival of Spring, our little mews (the creative hub of Muswell Hill) welcomed the dedicated followers of N10 fashion to the opening of an exquisite photography exhibition entitled ‘Paris In The Sixties’.
Playing host theLOCALgallery welcomed the hundreds of visitors from across London who had braved the tube closures and rail replacement buses, as well as those locals who made it out of the house to visit the off-Broadway row of vintage shops, artist’s studios and pop-up stalls. A French-themed street event which had been publicised in the Ham & High Broadway included a waffle van, savoury treats from Feast, cakes and bakes from Bakerlou, and authentic vintage clothing & furniture from popular mews shops Cha Cha Cha Vintage, and Can’t Buy Me Love. Several artists also opened their studio doors for visitors to peruse their work.
Earlier that morning theLOCALgallery owner and photographer Matt Humphrey, together with photographer David Gould, posted up a series of giant portraits of local traders on the brick wall cornering Princes Avenue with Avenue Mews. The pair had taken these striking shots as part of a global art project called Inside Out, and the traders’ message is to support independent and local trade. Local MP Lynne Featherstone came to see the portraits and mews, and to meet with owners of the shops that had posed, including Charlotte Murray, Cha Cha Cha, Rosie Brown Boutique, The Alexandra, Barrons Salon, W. Martyn, Tomfoolery, Frocks Away, Marcelo Monaco Personal Trainer from UFIT, Cheeses, and MHTG Chairman Marcelo Monaco.
Come to check the portraits for yourself, and see you next month here at the Muswell Flyer!
